ELEPHANT GRASS

Elephant grass is a tall grass originating in the Savanna in Africa. It grows up to 10 feet tall, usually in dense clumps. It grows along rivers and lake beds where there is rich soil. It has coarse, hairy stems that are yellow or purple. Many bird species live in the stands of elephant grass. The seeds of elephant grass are around 9 inches long. Elephant grass is an invasive plant species, but likes warm weather and can easily be killed by frost or cold, however, the roots stay alive unless the soil freezes.
JACKALBERRY TREE

The Jackalberry Tree grows on top of termite mounds. Once cut down, the tree's wood is almost resistent. tree prefers moist soil, rocky soils. It grows well in red loams, and volcanic and loamy sands. They're also found along river beds and swampy areas. It can grow to be anywhere from 15-80ft tall and 16 feet wide. New leaves will grow from June to October and are pink, orange or red. Animals such as kukus, nyalas, impalas, warthogs, baboons, parrots, and hornbills enjoy eating the Jackalberry Fruit. The roots can be used to get rid of parasites like ring worm, and dysentery and fever. It's also a remedy for leprosy.
WHISTLING THORN

The whistling thorn is an acacia tree that can grow up to 18 feet tall, but it's growth is often stunted. The plant protects itself with pairs of thorns that can grow up to three inches long. Stinging ants protect the trees by swarming any other animals that come near it, which causes some animals to avoid the trees entirely. The tree has many small leaves that filter through or avoid sunlight and stop the tree from losing too much water. These many leaflets are also helpful to the animals that eat them.
